What is Architectural Sheet Metal?

Architectural sheet metal is a combination of technical skills and artistry. The shaping of metal into useful and beautiful forms is a centuries-old craft. By the 19th century, architects began using sheet metal to construct large buildings. You are probably most familiar with 19th and 20th century structures that are built of, clad with, or roofed using sheet metals of various types and thicknesses.

In this field you will learn the basic principals of architecture. You'll see the role that sheet metal plays in modern structures. You will do most of your work outside on a construction site. You'll work in a challenging environment with architects, engineers, and dozens of other trade workers. You will help create buildings or bridges that are both functional and beautiful. You may also work on building decoration, shaping metal to create attractive and long-lasting designs.
